Instructional Design I will cover the following topics:
- Behaviorist, cognitivist and constructivist theories & principles (Anchored Instruction, Cognitive Apprenticeship, Goal Based Scenarios, 4C-ID, Pebble in the Pond)
- Instructional Design Theories for different outcomes
- Decision Oriented Instructional Design Model (DO-ID model)
At the end of the course students will…
- Know the key features of the most prominent instructional design theories & models
- Be able to analyze the requirements for an instructional design with respect to specific requirements
- Be able to apply instructional design theories to develop a learning solution

Computer-supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) is a mandatory winter semester online course. It is recommended that this course be taken in the 3rd semester. The online course is taught in partnership with other Universities such as the Unitversity of Oulu, Finland, University of Turku, Finland, and the Open University of the Netherlands. You will build small groups across these sites that dive deeper into one of the CSCL topics featured in this course, such as scripts for or co-regulation in CSCL. The course takes place from October to December only. While designed for your third semester, you may take this course also in your first semester and typically lots of students do. Please note, we have an Erasmus exchange program with one of the partners here, namely the Learning & Educational Technology Research Unit (LET) of the University of Oulu.

The Edutech design challenge seminar supports the Edutech lecture as a practical component. The three main assignments will consist of reading assignments, a wikipage creation assignment, and the Application design challenge. In conjunction with the weekly class we will utilize moodle to manage assignments.

Educational Technology (EduTech) is a mandatory 1st winter semester lecture It will meet weekly and is taken in conjunction with the EduTech design challenge. Most likely, this will be your first course of the entire program. The first day features a general introduction to studying at Saarland University. You will meet tutors and your fellow students.
