This lecture focuses on the analysis of grammatical differences between English and German in a systematic way. These will include the structure of different phrases, the respective status of auxiliaries, the grammar of (residual) verb-second effects and certain interpretive effects. Some basic knowledge of syntactic structure is expected. Depending on time and the interests of the participants, selected aspects from the grammars of other languages will also be contrasted with the structure of English.
