Course Description

This course focuses on the conceptual foundations and the design of human-centered information systems. Understanding and designing human-centered information systems is a key challenge in the digital transformation of the individual, organizations, and society.

Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to introduce key concepts, methods and techniques of human-centered information systems. A specific emphasis is set on introducing the human-centered design process and tools supporting its activities of analyze, specify, design, and evaluate. Furthermore, the course gives an overview on the conceptual foundations of human-computer interaction and related theories.

The course is complemented with a capstone project, in which students apply the concepts and techniques to analyze a problem motivated by practical experience and design a prototypical solution.

Learning Objectives

After the successful participation in the course students can:

  • explain the concept of human-centered information systems in different contexts and for different classes of information systems.
  • state and apply the theoretical foundations and relevant theories of human-centered information systems.
  • explain the human-centered design process and apply it to new problems.
  • analyze problems of digitalization by applying the concepts and methods from the course.
  • design and create interactive prototypes based on the problem analysis carried out.
