Philosophical reflections about the mind can be traced back to ancient Greek concepts of mind and self. In recent times, these reflections have been considerably shaped by the empirical inquiry into the structures and processes underlying human cognition. Philosophy of mind is a multidisciplinary research field at the intersection of science and philosophy. Besides conceptual contributions to the cognitive neurosciences, philosophy of mind also highlights the temporal and embodied character of the mind extending it beyond the brain.

In this seminar, we will track the development of concepts crucial to philosophy of mind, delineating their evolvement and transofrmation from ancient Greek philosophy to contemporary philosophical thinking. On this journey into the discovery of the mind, we will shed light on the Greek origins of Western philosophy by meandering across the boundaries of philosophy of mind, history of ancient Greek philosophy and aesthetics.
